FDA Recall: Pistachio Nuts Posted on April 1st, 2009 by

The FDA has announced a recall of Pistachio nuts due to contamination with multiple strains of Salmonella.
Though none of the items named in the FDA announcement (attached) are currently used on campus, the Dining Service is pro actively taking any
food items containing pistachio nuts and packages of trail mix that contain pistachio nuts out of service in anticipation of additions to the FDA list.

What should you do? 1.) Go to the FDA website and read through the announcement – paying close attention to the list of recalled items. Take a look at the FDA site periodically to look for new information and updates. 2.) If you have whole pistachios or trail mixes that contain pistachios we recommend you dispose of them even if they are not currently listed as recalled by the FDA. Salmonella is a very nasty bacteria and nothing to mess with.
